CVSS v3.1 |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
bpf: Bound ownership depth through local kptrs and graph roots
Program-allocated objects can own other local objects through referenced
kptrs. bpf_obj_free_fields() follows those pointers through
__bpf_obj_drop_impl() synchronously, before the object storage is freed
through RCU. A self-referential local kptr type therefore permits arbitrarily
deep object chains, and dropping the head can exhaust the kernel stack.
Long acyclic type chains have the same problem.
btf_check_and_fixup_fields() still assumes referenced kptrs only point to
kernel types and checks ownership through list and rbtree roots only. Its
existing rule is sufficient for graph-only cycles: the target of each graph
edge must contain a node, so every type in a cycle has both a root and a
node. The rule rejects such a type owning another root, breaking every
cycle. It also limits graph-only chains to three types, or two if the first
type contains a node, and conservatively rejects longer acyclic chains.
The missing local-kptr edges, rather than a missed graph-only cycle, are the
bug introduced by support for bpf_kptr_xchg() into local kptrs.
Replace that restriction with one bounded ownership walk covering graph
roots and local referenced kptrs. Run it after all BTF records have been
fixed up, reject cycles and paths deeper than eight record-bearing types,
and cache each type's suffix depth while checking it against the remaining
budget. This also permits the longer acyclic graph-only layouts rejected
by the old rule; update their existing BTF tests accordingly.
Keep the bound independent of MAX_CALL_FRAMES because recursive destruction
can run below a BPF call chain. A plain local pointee without special-field
metadata adds only a final non-recursing drop. Non-owning kptrs and
kernel-BTF kptrs do not recurse through local records and remain outside the
walk. Include local percpu-kptr edges too, although allocation of percpu
objects with special fields is currently forbidden, so that relaxing that
restriction cannot bypass the ownership bound.
btf_check_and_fixup_fields() continues to initialize graph_root.value_rec,
including for separately allocated map records. The ownership relationships
belong to immutable program BTF and only need validation at BTF load time. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net/mlx5e: fix swapped IPv6 IPsec policy masks
IPv6 XFRM policies may use different source and destination prefix
lengths. mlx5e_ipsec_policy_mask() builds the corresponding masks
independently, but setup_fte_addr6() installs each mask in the opposite
address field.
When the prefix lengths differ, this makes the source match use the
destination prefix and the destination match use the source prefix. The
resulting hardware rule can both miss traffic covered by the policy and
match traffic outside it.
Install each mask in its corresponding match field. |
| JIT miscompilation in the JavaScript Engine: JIT component. This vulnerability was fixed in Firefox 158, Firefox ESR 115.43, Firefox ESR 153.5, Thunderbird 158, and Thunderbird 153.5. |
| FasterXML Jackson 1.x, confirmed in jackson-mapper-asl versions 1.8.3, 1.9.2, 1.9.11, 1.9.12, and 1.9.13, allows attackers to cause a denial of service by supplying deeply nested JSON input to an application that deserializes untrusted JSON using ObjectMapper.readValue. |
| An issue in lottie-android 6.7.1 and earlier (and master) allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service via a crafted Lottie animation JSON containing a cyclic precomposition reference graph that triggers uncontrolled recursion in BaseLayer.forModel and CompositionLayer. |
| pupnp is an SDK for development of UPnP device and control point applications. Prior to 2.0.0, multiple ixml DOM traversal functions process deeply nested XML with unbounded recursion. The iterative XML parser accepts the document, but ixmlPrintDomTreeRecursive in ixml/src/ixml.c and ixmlNode_getElementsByTagNameRecursive, ixmlNode_getElementsByTagNameNSRecursive, ixmlNode_cloneNodeTreeRecursive, and ixmlNode_isAncestor in ixml/src/node.c recurse over firstChild and nextSibling links. An unauthenticated peer on the local network can supply deeply nested XML through a SOAP request, exhaust a service thread's stack, and crash the UPnP service. This is an incomplete-fix case for CVE-2021-28302 because its remediation converted ixmlNode_free but left these traversal paths recursive. This issue is fixed in 2.0.0. |
| kin-openapi is a Go project for handling OpenAPI files. Prior to 0.149.0, runtime request, response, and direct schema validation lacks cycle detection when an allOf, anyOf, or oneOf chain refers back to an ancestor schema, even though loading and document validation accept the circular reference. A request or response that reaches the affected schema causes unbounded recursion in Schema.visitJSON or openapi3filter.decodeValue and exhausts the Go goroutine stack. The resulting fatal stack overflow cannot be caught with recover and terminates the entire process, including unrelated requests. This issue is fixed in version 0.149.0. |
| IBM Maximo Application Suite - IoT Component 9.2.0, 9.1.0, and 9.0.0 could allow a remote attacker to cause a denial of service due to uncontrolled recursion. |
| libIEC61850 is an open-source implementation of IEC 61850 client and server protocols including MMS, GOOSE, Sampled Values, and R-Session. From 1.6.1 until 1.6.2, a successful MMS ObtainFile operation closes MmsObtainFileTask::fileHandle but leaves the stale non-NULL value in a task marked MMS_FILE_UPLOAD_STATE_NOT_USED. If a later ObtainFile request reuses that task and destination creation fails, MMS_FILE_UPLOAD_STATE_SEND_OBTAIN_FILE_ERROR_DESTINATION cleanup closes the stale FILE object again. Servers with the MMS file service and ObtainFile enabled can therefore be crashed remotely by the success-then-failure request sequence. This issue is fixed in version 1.6.2. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net/smc: check return value of sock_recvmsg when draining clc data
When receiving clc msg, the field length in smc_clc_msg_hdr indicates the
length of msg should be received from network and the value should not be
fully trusted as it is from the network. Once the value of length exceeds
the value of buflen in function smc_clc_wait_msg it may run into deadloop
when trying to drain the remaining data exceeding buflen.
This patch checks the return value of sock_recvmsg when draining data in
case of deadloop in draining. |
| OW2 ASM 3.0 before 9.11 contains an uncontrolled recursion vulnerability in SignatureReader.parseType() that allows attackers to exhaust the stack via deeply nested generic type signatures. Attackers can supply a crafted class file with a long Signature attribute containing many nested type arguments to trigger a StackOverflowError during class transformation, causing denial of service. |
| In Symfony Expression Language versions prior to 5.4.54, 6.4.48, 7.4.21, and 8.1.9, the parser of the ExpressionLanguage component built its node tree with no bound on its depth. An expression made of tens of thousands of nested unary operators, array literals, binary operators or property accesses crashed the PHP process, while the tree was being freed.
#[Assert\ExpressionSyntax] passes the validated value to ExpressionLanguage::lint(), so an application validating expressions written by its users could be crashed by a single request, and so could any code parsing untrusted expressions.
This issue affects symfony/expression-language through v5.4.53, v6.0.0-BETA1 through v6.4.47, v7.0.0-BETA1 through v7.4.20, and v8.0.0-BETA1 through v8.1.8. |
| In Symfony YAML prior to versions 5.4.54, 6.4.45, 7.4.18, and 8.1.6, Yaml\Parser::lexInlineStructure() recursed through lexInlineMapping() and lexInlineSequence() for every { and [ of an inline collection, without entering the nesting level that the rest of the parser bounds with maxNestingLevel. A document made of deeply nested inline collections, such as [[[[...]]]], exhausted the stack while it was being lexed: depending on the PHP version and its stack settings, the process crashed or the request ended with a fatal error.
Any code parsing untrusted YAML is affected. That includes #[MapRequestPayload] when the Yaml component is installed and the endpoint does not restrict acceptFormat: a single unauthenticated request with a YAML content type is enough.
This issue affects symfony/yaml through v5.4.53, v6.0.0-BETA1 through v6.4.44, v7.0.0-BETA1 through v7.4.17, and v8.0.0-BETA1 through v8.1.5. |
| Uncontrolled Recursion vulnerability in Protobuf.JSON.Decode in elixir-protobuf protobuf allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to crash the decoding process via a deeply nested JSON document. Any application that decodes attacker-supplied JSON with Protobuf.JSON.decode/3, Protobuf.JSON.decode!/3, or Protobuf.JSON.from_decoded/3 into a schema that contains a self-referential or cyclic message type is affected.
In lib/protobuf/json/decode.ex, the embedded-message clause of decode_singular/3 recurses into internal_from_json_data/3 once per nesting level without incrementing or checking the decoder's depth counter. The depth guard increase_depth_and_maybe_throw/1 covers only the Google.Protobuf.ListValue and Google.Protobuf.Struct clauses, so the recursion_limit option has no effect on user-defined message types. Each nesting level allocates a stack frame and heap objects, and a sufficiently deep document exhausts the memory of the decoding process. Confidentiality and integrity are not affected.
This issue affects protobuf: from 0.8.0 before 0.17.1. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
wifi: cfg80211: undo netns switch if renaming the wiphy fails
Once all the interfaces have been moved, cfg80211_switch_netns()
moves the wiphy itself by setting its network namespace and then
renaming it, which makes sysfs move it. The rename can fail (but
only on allocation failures), leaving things mixed up and hitting
the warning there.
Ignoring it isn't great, undo the move and let the change fail
in this case. If undo fails then WARN, then things would again
be stuck in two different network namespaces. |
| ImageMagick before 6.9.13-57 and 7.x before 7.1.2-32 contains a stack overflow in the MSL decoder caused by an incorrect depth check that fails to limit recursion. Attackers can supply a set of crafted MSL images that exhaust the stack when one of them is read, crashing the process and causing a denial of service. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
l2tp: Drop large packets with UDP encap
syzbot reported a WARN on my patch series [1]. The actual issue is an
overflow of 16-bit UDP length field, and it exists in the upstream code.
My series added a debug WARN with an overflow check that exposed the
issue, that's why syzbot tripped on my patches, rather than on upstream
code.
syzbot's repro:
r0 = socket$pppl2tp(0x18, 0x1, 0x1)
r1 = socket$inet6_udp(0xa, 0x2, 0x0)
connect$inet6(r1, &(0x7f00000000c0)={0xa, 0x0, 0x0, @loopback, 0xfffffffc}, 0x1c)
connect$pppl2tp(r0, &(0x7f0000000240)=@pppol2tpin6={0x18, 0x1, {0x0, r1, 0x4, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, {0xa, 0x4e22, 0xffff, @ipv4={'\x00', '\xff\xff', @empty}}}}, 0x32)
writev(r0, &(0x7f0000000080)=[{&(0x7f0000000000)="ee", 0x34000}], 0x1)
It basically sends an oversized (0x34000 bytes) PPPoL2TP packet with UDP
encapsulation, and l2tp_xmit_core doesn't check for overflows when it
assigns the UDP length field. The value gets trimmed to 16 bites.
Add an overflow check that drops oversized packets and avoids sending
packets with trimmed UDP length to the wire.

| An improper certificate/host key validation vulnerability was discovered in the Smart Polling functionality, which established encrypted connections to target devices without validating the remote host's identity, and no option was provided to enable it. A man-in-the-middle attacker positioned between a sensor and a polled device can, during a polling session, impersonate the device and intercept the communication, including the credentials used to access it. The captured credentials can then be replayed to authenticate against the device itself or against other devices sharing the same credentials, allowing the attacker to access and tamper with the device's data and to disrupt its operations. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
scsi: target: Fix recursive locking in __configfs_open_file()
In flush_write_buffer, &p->frag_sem is acquired and then the loaded store
function is called, which, here, is target_core_item_dbroot_store(). This
function called filp_open(), following which these functions were called
(in reverse order), according to the call trace:
down_read
__configfs_open_file
do_dentry_open
vfs_open
do_open
path_openat
do_filp_open
file_open_name
filp_open
target_core_item_dbroot_store
flush_write_buffer
configfs_write_iter
target_core_item_dbroot_store() tries to validate the new file path by
trying to open the file path provided to it; however, in this case, the bug
report shows:
db_root: not a directory: /sys/kernel/config/target/dbroot
indicating that the same configfs file was tried to be opened, on which it
is currently working on. Thus, it is trying to acquire frag_sem semaphore
of the same file of which it already holds the semaphore obtained in
flush_write_buffer(), leading to acquiring the semaphore in a nested manner
and a possibility of recursive locking.
Fix this by modifying target_core_item_dbroot_store() to use kern_path()
instead of filp_open() to avoid opening the file using filesystem-specific
function __configfs_open_file(), and further modifying it to make this fix
compatible. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
netfilter: nf_tables: fix inverted genmask check in nft_map_catchall_activate()
nft_map_catchall_activate() has an inverted element activity check
compared to its non-catchall counterpart nft_mapelem_activate() and
compared to what is logically required.
nft_map_catchall_activate() is called from the abort path to re-activate
catchall map elements that were deactivated during a failed transaction.
It should skip elements that are already active (they don't need
re-activation) and process elements that are inactive (they need to be
restored). Instead, the current code does the opposite: it skips inactive
elements and processes active ones.
Compare the non-catchall activate callback, which is correct:
nft_mapelem_activate():
if (nft_set_elem_active(ext, iter->genmask))
return 0; /* skip active, process inactive */
With the buggy catchall version:
nft_map_catchall_activate():
if (!nft_set_elem_active(ext, genmask))
continue; /* skip inactive, process active */
The consequence is that when a DELSET operation is aborted,
nft_setelem_data_activate() is never called for the catchall element.
For NFT_GOTO verdict elements, this means nft_data_hold() is never
called to restore the chain->use reference count. Each abort cycle
permanently decrements chain->use. Once chain->use reaches zero,
DELCHAIN succeeds and frees the chain while catchall verdict elements
still reference it, resulting in a use-after-free.
This is exploitable for local privilege escalation from an unprivileged
user via user namespaces + nftables on distributions that enable
CONFIG_USER_NS and CONFIG_NF_TABLES.
Fix by removing the negation so the check matches nft_mapelem_activate():
skip active elements, process inactive ones. |
